REDES se suma al Manifiesto por una economía al servicio de la Justicia Social y el cuidado de la Casa Común, impulsado desde Latinoamérica por organizaciones eclesiales y movimientos populares.
De acuerdo con el llamamiento realizado por el Papa Francisco el pasado 16 de octubre durante el IV Encuentro Mundial de Movimientos Populares, reclamamos una economía “al servicio de los pueblos para construir una paz duradera basada en la justicia social y el cuidado de la Casa Común”. En su discurso el Papa pidió a las empresas extractivas que pongan fin a las violaciones de los derechos humanos y medioambientales que implican sus actividades, como la destrucción del medio ambiente, la contaminación del agua, la intoxicación de los pueblos y los alimentos. Estos abusos fueron denunciados por Enlázate por la Justicia al presentar en 2019 en Informe de la REPAM sobre Vulneración de DDHH en la Amazonía.
“Este sistema, con su implacable lógica del beneficio, está escapando a todo control humano. Es hora de parar la locomotora, una locomotora fuera de control que nos está llevando al abismo”, invitó el Papa Francisco. “El cambio personal es necesario, pero también es esencial ajustar nuestros modelos socioeconómicos para que tengan un rostro humano. Volver a las viejas costumbres sería realmente suicida y, si se me permite estirar un poco las palabras, ecocida y genocida”, reforzó.
Lanzamos el Manifiesto en recuerdo del crimen ocurrido en Brumadinho en 2019, que cumplió 1000 días de impunidad el pasado 25 de octubre, donde murieron más de 270 personas sepultadas por la ruptura de un dique de la empresa Vale. En línea con el trabajo realizado por los firmantes con las comunidades martirizadas por la gran minería, el documento reafirma el acompañamiento y la denuncia de la “injusticia que sufren miles de personas a causa del extractivismo y sensibilizamos sobre los impactos de la minería y otros proyectos depredadores”. Las más de 20 organizaciones que se unen a través del manifiesto llaman a la urgencia al modelo minero transnacional que “se expande sobre la vasta geografía y socio-biodiversidad de Nuestra América” y lo declaran como una “expresión contemporánea del colonialismo inherente al desarrollo del capitalismo como proyecto civilizatorio”. El grupo de organizaciones, en una carta, asume la corresponsabilidad de promover una economía que actúe con propuestas que contribuyan a una economía postextractivista.
El manifiesto que se presenta hace un llamamiento a las iglesias, los movimientos populares y la sociedad civil para que se unan en la creación de una estructura social que “sea capaz de transformar el modelo económico caracterizado por la ciega voracidad de un tipo de explotación extractiva que no para de crecer y expandirse; que cuanto más extrae y más deprime, más necesita para seguir destruyendo la naturaleza”.
